“Solvency. Expressiveness. Precision. Admirable subtlety and containment. He gave air to the musicians with broad phrases of clear, direct but not invasive gestures.”
SCHERZO
“A conductor who can draw out the best in an orchestra, who gives them a clearly musical idea to play to, can be rewarded by an orchestra keen to please. This was the case here, and the audience response was tremendous.”

Ramón Tebar

Spanish conductor Ramón Tebar is principal conductor and artistic director of Opera Naples and artistic director of the Arantzazu Festival. He previously held leadership positions as music director and artistic director of both the Orquesta de Valencia and Florida Grand Opera, as well as serving as principal guest conductor of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. Earlier in his distinguished career, he also served as music director of the Palm Beach Symphony and the Santo Domingo Festival.

Tebar's international symphonic presence is expanding rapidly across the 2026–27 calendar with prestigious upcoming debuts alongside the Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the Orchestre National Montpellier Occitanie. Conducting a vast symphonic repertoire ranging from Vivaldi and Bach to John Adams and Anna Clyne, by way of Brahms, Bruckner, and Mahler, Tebar is highly sought-after in the concert hall. In Spain, he leads and guests with such major ensembles as the Spanish National Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony, the RTVE Orchestra, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Madrid Symphony, the Basque National Orchestra, and numerous regional orchestras across the country.

Beyond Spain, Tebar guest conducts the world's premier symphonic ensembles, including the Philharmonia in London, the Prague Philharmonia, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Münchener Kammerorchester, the St. Petersburg Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Armenian Philharmonic, the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen Normandie, the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz, the Daejeon Philharmonic, the Aalborg Symphony, the Szczecin Philharmonic, the San Antonio Symphony, the Norrlandsoperans Symfoniorkester, the Würth Philharmoniker, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Het Gelders Orkest, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Verona, and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Cagliari. His 2026–27 symphonic engagements feature returns to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, alongside debuts with the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

Past symphonic highlights include season-opening concerts with Lang Lang and the Calgary Philharmonic; a 25th-anniversary concert in Malta for an audience of more than 10,000 alongside the Malta Philharmonic; a collaboration with Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu at the Teatro Colón; and special performances of Verdi’s Requiem at the Cincinnati May Festival.

His symphonic career is complemented by an equally distinguished presence in the opera pit, highlighted by his September 2026 debut at the Metropolitan Opera conducting Puccini's La bohème. This milestone joins an expansive roster of major international house and festival debuts across the autumn and winter calendar, including high-profile operatic house debuts at the Stuttgart State Opera with La Cenerentola and Venice's historic Teatro La Fenice. These appearances build on the momentum of his celebrated summer 2026 festival debuts, which featured performances at the Macerata Opera Festival leading Orff's Carmina Burana and at the Rossini Opera Festival conducting Rossini's Stabat Mater.

A regular guest at the Vienna State Opera, Tebar has conducted productions including Madama Butterfly, La bohème, Turandot and Don Pasquale. His operatic career has also taken him to San Francisco Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Colón, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Royal Swedish Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Opéra national de Lorraine, Gothenburg Opera, Savonlinna Festival, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Regio Torino, and the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, among others. His repertoire ranges from Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti to Puccini, Verdi, Bizet, Massenet and contemporary opera.

The conductor’s discography includes a Verdi collection on Decca, featuring Spain’s Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana; a collaboration for Universal with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater on CD and DVD for Phono Classical; and Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco, captured live at the Verdi Festival on DVD by Unitel Classica. He also leads the Orchestra Simfónica del Vallés in multiple episodes of This Is Art, a two-season documentary series produced for Spanish television in collaboration with the BBC.

Born in Valencia, Spain, Tebar first drew national notice when he won the Spanish National Youth Orchestra’s conducting competition. Becoming, as noted by President Obama, the “first Spanish conductor to be appointed Artistic and Music director of an American opera company,” he has since been recognized with honors including Florida Grand Opera’s Henry C. Clark Conductor of the Year Award, in both 2010 and 2013. He received the Cross of Officer of the Order of Civil Merit from King Felipe VI of Spain in 2015.
